A cognitive conceptualization provides the framework for understanding a patient. Then hypothesize how the patient developed this particular psychological disorder. Hypothesizes that people"s emotions, behaviors, and physiology are influenced by their perception of events. Situation/event automatic thoughts reaction (emotional, behavioral, physiological). The situation itself does not directly determine how they feel or what they do; their emotional response is mediated by their perception of the situation. Not the result of deliberation or reasoning. Core beliefs are enduring understandings so fundamental and deep that they often do not articulate them, even to themselves. People focus selectively on information that confirms their core belief, disregarding or discounting information to the contrary. Automatic thoughts: the actual words or images that go through a person"s mind. Situation specific and may be considered the most superficial level of cognition. Influence view of a situation, which in turn influence how one thinks, feels, and behaves. Core beliefs intermediate beliefs automatic thoughts.
