THRS 231 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Ahold
Document Summary
Divine compassion seeks to protect, forgive, heal, and redeem. Combines empathy, the ability to feel what another person is going through, with goodwill, wanting what is good for that person. Compassion is fundamentally rooted in the love of god. To suffer with another person, we must have had experiences of our own weakness, exploited and dispossessed. Church should be a community whose way of life & mission reflect god"s radical compassion. Jesus"s wounds signified both damage done to him and his willingness to endure that suffering. If neither men or women admit when they are flawed, weak, or wounded, how are we supposed. If the cross testifies to the love of a god who is willing to embrace human pain and suffering. We are invited to acknowledge that everything that exists is already a manifestation of divine. Salvation is the transformation of the world and god"s rule is to expand it.
