Heritability - proportion of differences between individuals that is genetic. Can vary between herds and even within herds. Magnitude of correlations vary between -1 and +1. Genetic correlation - when the same or many of the same genes control two traits. 0 different genes influence the two traits uncorrelated. +1 breeding values for the animals for the two traits vary together negatively. 1 breeding values for the animals for the two traits vary. One goes up, the other goes down. Absolute value of correlation indicates the strength of the association between two traits. Feed efficiency - product per unit of feed. Rate of gain - pounds of gain per day over a specified period. Favorable correlation with feed efficiency can just use this trait.
