Roger whetmore and four other men were trapped in a cave for 32 days. A physician informed the men through radio that they would most likely not survive the next 10 days, the minimum amount of time needed to rescue these men. Whetmore made an effort to abide by civil rules and social norms by asking to speak with judges, priests, and ministers about the legality/ethics of eating one of themselves. 3 days after the conversation, the four men killed. Whetmore was the first to propose that they find nutriment in the flesh of one of their members. Whetmore was the one to propose the casting of lots. The other four men were reluctant to follow whetmore"s idea until they heard the radio conversation. Before the die were cast, whetmore wanted to withdraw from the arrangement. The 4 men charged him with a breach of faith and cast the die anyway.
