Document Summary

Statics is the study of the forces acting on an object that is in eq and at rest; here, statics is discussed by a rigid body or one that does not change when a force acts upon it. For an object to be in eq, it must be in translational eq and an absence of a net torque (turning effect) Center of gravity - point at which the weight of a rigid body may be considered to be concentrated. Torque depends on the force (f) and the distance ( r ) from a point on the axis of rotation to the point where the force acts on the object and the angle between r & f. A force parallel to the axis of rotation will have no effect on rotational motion. Direction of torque is given in terms of the vector product or cross product of 2 vectors. Net force of object = 0 & 2.
