Document Summary

Longitudinal designs: the same participants are measured on the same variables at time 1 and 2. Cross sectional correlations: test to see whether two variables, measured at the same point in time are correlated; ex: agression in third grade and amount of tv violence watched in third grade. Dependent variables( criterion variable): most interested in understanding or predicting; ex: in recess and behavior problems it would be behavior problems. Predictor variables: (independent variable): rest of the variables measured in a regression analysis; amount of recess, number of students eligible for free lunch. Gives the probability that beta came from a population that the relationship is zeros: when greater not significant. Terms to identify multiple regression: (cid:862)controlled for(cid:863) (cid:862)taking into a(cid:272)(cid:272)ount(cid:863) (cid:862)corre(cid:272)ting for(cid:863: pattern and parsimony, researchers can investigate causality by using a variety of correlational studies that point in a single causal direction.
