PSYCH 339 Chapter Notes - Chapter 18: Jane Goodall, Young Life, Parenting

32 views2 pages

Document Summary

It is incredibly fascinating to me that jane goodall has spent the better part of the past two decades, and continues to spend her days, living in gombe and studying the patterns of chimpanzee behavior. First, the relationship between mother and child is something that i found to be intriguing. A difference is clearly that male chimps seldom take part in the child raising process. On the other hand, the relationship between mother and child is one of dependence and affection. They stay together for a large part of the chimps" young life and together will go hunt food and travel. The babies learn how to ride on their mothers" backs and walk close to age 6, and continue to be dependent at 6 years. The young female chimps start to emulate their mothers by carrying young on their backs and trying to get close to show affection, a part of the chimps" nonverbal communication that is really important.
