Document Summary

Original place of publication: international journal of criminology & penology: questions addressed in original study: (list the 2 5 most important questions addressed in the original study) The true individual identities of the guards disappeared when they were given the role of being a guards. These guard roles took over their true identity and personality and made them behave and react in a way that they believe a guard would act (asserting their authority) In the prisoner abuse in iraq we see high ranking officials and people with authority abusing the lowest ranking soldiers which zimbardo believes is due to the lack of good leadership not the bad people. Through this zimbardo study we can understand more about the issues with prison reform such as prisoner brutality. One limitation of the study is that they only use men. They only use young men, all the same age, for the guards and prisoners.
