PHYSICS 135 Chapter Notes - Chapter 25: Curved Mirror, Specular Reflection, Plane Mirror
Document Summary
Specular reflection is when light reflects on a smooth surface in a definite direction. Diffuse reflection is when light is reflected on a rough surface in different directions. The law of reflection states that the angle between the reflected ray and the normal vector is equal to the angle of incidence. Angle of reflection = angle of incidence. Real image is when the light rays actually emanate from the object. Virtual image is when light doesn"t emanate from the object and the image seems to be behind the mirror. A real image is when light rays converge after refraction. A virtual image is when light rays diverge after refraction. An upright image is above the x-axis = positive. An inverted image is below the x-axis = negative. Object distance: the distance at which the object is placed from the point of incidence on the mirror.
