Chapter 4: how to implement the srsd model. Structured strategy implicit sequence of steps. Permits teachers to create an implementation plan that is sequenced. Survey chapter headings -- make predictions and activate prior knowledge. Connections -- write down key words and connections between headings. Read the text -- mark the text, stop to understand major ideas and supporting details, reread if necessary. Outline the text -- outline each heading segment. Look back at the text -- check accuracy of main ideas and details they wrote. Unstructured strategy no implicit guide to strategy performance. Teacher must create a structure to guide students" use of the strategy. Ask who, what, where, when, why, and how. Procedural info is left out (what steps student will perform to use strategy) Read story and mark info with color-coded tabs. Look back at tabs and decide if markings answer story grammar questions. Read over graphic organizer and make sure it accurately describes the story.
