Improve performance - do it better, more quickly, or more easily. Commit time and effort to use a strategy and consciously choose a strategy to use. Can be cognitive processes - occur in our heads. A series of ordered steps that helps a student perform a task. Chunking - grouping info into smaller units. Relating info to know material - analogies. Tagging info - paths to help remember info. Phonological loop - phonological store (speech-based) and articulatory control process (stores and rehearses info from phonological store) Central executive - coordinates actions of phonological loop and articulatory control process. Executive functions - how info is processed and stored. Teach in ways that encourage students to process the information - elaboration, rehearsal, mnemonics. Students with ld or adhd - often have deficiencies in working memory. Often cannot follow directions - cannot hold info in working memory and forget the directions; processing demands are too difficult.
