Zimbardo"s stanford prison experiment- has half of the participants be guards and the other half be prisoners in a simulated prison experiment. Results similar to american treatment of arab prisoners at abu ghraib. Unequal power balance in prisons infects those in charge. Social psychology- scientific study of the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of individuals in social situations. Interested in how people make sense of their world, situations where some exert influence over others and people"s response to these tactics, how people reach conclusions about causes of events, make inferences about people and what to believe. Findings have shaped government, school, and business policies. Social psych is similar to personality psychology which tries to find a consistent pattern in the way an individual acts across situations. Social psych relates to cognitive psychology which involves how people perceive, think about, and remember parts of the world, but the fields often differ in subject being studied.
