PSYC 102 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Subtractive Color, Green Paper, Additive Color
Document Summary
Allows us to classify and identify things in environment. Survival- enhances contrast between objects (find food easier) Detect hidden objects and identify ones that are clearly presented. Experiment- tanaka and presnell found that people take longer to identify objects if they are the wrong color. Red, yellow, blue, and green are pure or unique colors. Need them in order to describe other colors. Blue colors have short wavelengths, green has medium, and yellow and red have the longest. Create more colors by changing saturation and intensity of color. Changing intensity of light makes colors brighter or dimmer. Adding white to red desaturates it to make pink. Color of light is determined by its wavelength. 400-450nm= violet, 450-490nm= blue, 500-575nm= green, 575-590nm= yellow, 590- Color of object depends on wavelengths that it reflects into our eyes (the object absorbs rest of wavelengths) Selective reflection- when some wavelengths are reflected more than other to produce chromatic colors (like red, green, blue, etc. )
