Document Summary

Concept of a field developed by michael faraday. Electric field: exist in the region of space around a charged object (the source charge: when an object (test charge) enters the electric field, an electric force acts on it. The test charge is only there to detect the electric field. At the position of the test charge, the electric field created by q is: If the source charge q is positive, the electric field at point p is directed away from q. If the source charge q is negative, the electric field at point p is directed toward q. To calculate the electric field at a point p due to a group of point charges: calculate the electric field vectors at p individually, add them together vectorially. Electric field due to continuous charge distributions: distance between source charges is smaller than distance between source charge and test charge, system of source charges can be modeled as continuous.
