There was large scale european immigration to the americas and the assimilation of many of the native peoples. This made the wars of independence a conflict almost between brothers. Connection to a european state and city that was kept alive by the more rapid movement of information. In the east, there was also widespread immigration, but never any connection to a home city or state that lasted.
