The han dynasty, 206 bc 220 bc. After collapse of qin dynasty, liu bang gains power and becomes emperor gaozu. Disbanded many of the unpopular features of qin dynasty include lowering taxes and abolishing harsh laws: chinese population expanded quickly. Han government supported by taxes sometimes fell short on revenue: 119 bc government monopolizes salt, liquor, and iron. Also took over grain business as well. Meant to provide constant prices and bring profit to government. Han government supported confucianism and took in confucian scholars to be government officials. These confucians either: specialized in a single confucian classic, explained cosmological theories about the world, elevated the role of the emperor. Han art reveled in spirits and the other-worldly absorbed into new religion of daoism.
