Hypothalamus - hunger, defensive and reproductive behaviors, sleep. Consists of 2 small hills called colliculi. Receives sensory input from body below head. Consists of nerves and small concentrations of grey matter called ganglia. Autonomic nervous system (2 parts) - connects cns to internal organs. Controls energy and resources during times of stress. Conserves resources and energy during times of relaxation. Damage to left frontal lobe can cause broca"s aphasia - stuttering slow speaking.
