Cortex - 2 mm thick and has area of 2 meters. Corpus callosum - connects 2 sides of the brains. Cerebrum - largest part of the brain. Frontal lobe is responsible for cognitive skills, problem solving, thinking, and personality. Parietal lobe is involved in sensory processes, attention and languages. Left side - spoken and written language. Temporal - auditory and helps process info from other senses. Thalamus passes sensory input to cortex after prioritizing it. Hypothalamus - hunger, defensive and reproductive behaviors, sleep. Consists of 2 small hills called colliculi. Receives sensory input from body below head. Consists of nerves and small concentrations of grey matter called ganglia. Autonomic nervous system (2 parts) - connects cns to internal organs. Controls energy and resources during times of stress. Conserves resources and energy during times of relaxation. Damage to left frontal lobe can cause broca"s aphasia - stuttering slow speaking.
