Document Summary

A wave is transfer of disturbance from one place to another place. There are three kinds of waves depending upon the kind of disturbance: 1. If the disturbance is mechanical then the wave is called mechanical wave; ex; sound wave and water wave. If the disturbance is electric and magnetic then it is called electromagnetic wave; ex light wave, radio wave and the entire electromagnetic family! If the disturbance probability of finding a particle, then it is called matter waves. Types of waves: two kinds longitudinal and transverse waves. A wave is longitudinal if the particles of the medium vibrate parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave; longitudinal waves are possible in gaseous and solid medium. Longitudinal waves are produced by compressions and rarefactions in a medium. F" is expressed in hz (hertz) and " in meters and v in m/s.
