Observed that a duck infected with h1n1 virus had parkinson"s disease. Correlation between 1918 spanish flu with an epidemic of parkinson"s disease a few decades later. In experiment: some viruses are not blocked from entering the blood brain barrier. Viruses can infiltrate the nerve cells & kill them. Viruses can also indirectly cause inflammation if they cannot pass through blood brain barrier. Nervous system immune cells called microglia cause inflammation & cell death in the area. Specifically targets the dopamine producing neurons in the substantia nigra. Measles & herpes viruses can give rise to ms (multiple sclerosis) in rodents. People who died from alzheimer"s had a higher level of herpes virus in their brains. Viruses can infect gut & eventually move into the forebrain the way parkinson"s infects humans. Viruses can enter the body through the nose/mouth & move into the brain by replicating.
