Due process in involuntary commitment: writ of habeas corpus, procedure to challenge unlawful detention. If patient feels he/she is being held against their will: form filled out and case is looked at independently, psychiatrist comes in to evaluate and then an outside psychiatrist can be brought in and judge. Least restrictive alternative doctrine: take least drastic action to achieve goal.
