Anatomy of the female reproductive system can be categories into external genitalia and internal structures. External female genitalia are collectively referred to as the vulva. Vulva includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, prepuce, vaginal vestibule, ducts of skene"s and bartholin"s glands, vaginal orifice, urethral meatus and perineum. Mons pubis - layer of adipose tissue that lies over the symphysis pubis. Labia majora are a pair of folds of tissue that extend downward from the mons pubis. Perineal surface is the triangular shaped area between the vaginal opening and the anus. Pelvic floor consists of a group of muscles that form a suspended sling supporting the pelvic contents. Include the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. They are supported by four pairs of ligaments: cardinal, uterosacral, round, and broad ligaments. Canal composed of smooth muscle and is lined with mucous membrane that extends posteriorly from the vestibule to the uterus.
