Document Summary

Supreme court: appellate jurisdiction, similar to the us federal system, cases have the right to ask for the supreme court to hear their case, but the supreme court does not have to accept hearing the case. Your case can only be heard by a court that has jurisdiction over your case. A case must have both 1 and 2: subject matter jurisdiction, either: a. b. Subject matter jurisdiction: between state and federal court system. If subject matter jurisdiction is appropriate in more than one court or more than one court system, then those courts have concurrent jurisdiction over the matter. The case may be brought to either court or court system, but not to both at the same time. When a court has exclusive jurisdiction over a type of case, then it is the only court that may hear those cases.
