Transmission (contact, vector, vehicle, fomite, droplets, airborne) Process that begins when an agent leaves its reservoir or host through a portal of exit, and is conveyed by some mode of transmission, then enter through and appropriate. Cases: (people that are actually sick) persons with symptomatic illness. Carriers: people that carry that organism but don"t show any signs of it. Indirect transmission: vehicle borne- inanimate vehicle (fomites/inanimate objects such as toys, door knobs, cell phones, keyboards, refrigerator door handles) Portal of entry: mucous membranes; ex. eyes, nose, mouth, anus, vagina. A susceptible host is the final link in the chain of infection (susceptibility depends on: genetic factors, general factors, specific acquired immunity) The glove box, binder, and computer monitor were all examples of fomites. Hand sanitizer has to have at least 65% alcohol.
