PSY 301 Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Internal Validity, Confounding, Construct Validity
Document Summary
One-group, pretest-posttest design: participants pretest measure (dv) treatment posttest measure (dv) A change in behavior that emerges more or less spontaneously over time. Spontaneous remission: when a person recovers from something randomly without help. Include a comparison group so there is a control. Historical or external factor that systematically effects most members of the treatment group, such as seasons changing. At the same time as the treatment itself, making it unclear whether the change is caused by the treatment. Also called regression to the mean: when a group average (mean) is unusually extreme at time 1. Next time that group is measured (time 2), it is likely to be less extreme. Occurs when a group is measured twice, and the group has an extreme score as pretest. Random factors could cause changes between the first and second tests. A reduction in participant numbers that occur when people drop out before the end.
