Cycles of inequality and resources use are heading toward political unrest, war, and finally collapse. For some, trump"s turning away from international commitments is part of fulfilling his promise to focus on its own interests. For others, it"s a dangerous move that threatens to undermine the whole world order . The equations being used to describe boom-and-bust cycles in predator and prey animals can also be used to describe the rise and fall of ancient civilisations. Two recurring cycles that are linked to era-defining periods of unrest. Secular cycle: lasts two to three centuries. As population grows, the supply of labour begins to outstrips demand and becomes cheap. Wealthy elites form, living standards of workers fall. Destructive phase, social turbulence, and then collapse. Made up of two generations: one peaceful and one turbulent. The end of the next 50 year cycle (1870, 1920, 1970) will coincide with the turbulent part of the longer cycle.
