Document Summary
In spite of unpredictability of hunting, fishing, and herding, people regularly succeed. Attributed to the development overtime of knowledge of: Changes in winds, rainfall, sunshine, and temperature threaten to increase/decrease known risks. Anthropological approach to assess changes: follow and watch familiar activities, understand why these events have occured and led to the outcomes. Causal analysis of events and quotidien activities. Important to understand human decision making in the face of change. First challenge is to identify what constitutes a reaction to something. The proper approach is to identify effects (responses) and then seek causes. Because of unpredictable nature of activities in a changing context descriptions must move between local practices and an outsider"s observations and interpretations. Uncertainty in effects on species and ecosystem ranges, daily behavior, and reproductive biology. A gap in research in how people are adapting or will adapt to biodiversity change.
