POLS 207 Chapter 4: Participation in State Politics

42 views18 pages

Document Summary

Even though participation in politics was steadily rising, participation rates lag in non-presidential election years, especially when states and localities elect their officials. Therefore, many different campaigns have turned to the young population for energy and innovation. With this in mind, it has been proven that young voters are being heavily targeted by both democratic and republican parties, as well as, engaging in discussions with different parties at local colleges. This causes for college students to cast more votes than those that don"t attend college. Sustained political participation: voting consistently in election after election for state and local offices as well as congress and the president. This is highly rare; meaning it hardly ever happens that way. Age is one of the best predictor of sustained political activity; those that are older in age are more likely to vote than those of younger ages.
