Chapter 6 perception and individual decision making. Perception = process where individ organize and interpret sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their env: people"s behavior based on their percep of what reality is not on reality itself. Perceiver, object, target, situation can be factors that shape perception. When look at target and interpret what you see, your interp heavily influenced by personal characteristics (attitudes, personality, motives, intersts, past experiences, expectations) Characteristics of target affect what we perceive: relationship of target w/ bg also affect percep. Attribution theory explain ways in which we judge ppl diff depending on meaning we attrib to given behav. Distinctiveness whether individ displays diff behavs in diff sits. Consensus does everyone who faces similar sit respond in same way. Consistency does person respond same way over time. More consistent behav, more we attribute it to internal causes.
