Uterus - organ in the lower abdomen of females where offspring are conceived. Starting at puberty, it becomes the site in which the cycles that dictate their ability to bear children take place. Ovulation - focal point of female hormones and changes in the ovary and the uterus. Female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, influence other organ systems in the body ranging from the brian to the blood vessels. Site where different hormones are received from the pituitary and where additional hormones are produced to ready the uterine wall to receive the fertilized egg. Estrogen - hormone that gives females their secondary sex characteristics. Also protects the cardiovascular system, which can lead to women living longer than men. Testosterone - considered to be a male hormone but is also produced in the female. Ovaries and adrenal cortex produce the hormone which is responsible for enhancing the libido of females as well as strengthening bone, muscle and brain development.
