It is interesting that child development psychologists never focus on the development of religion. Simplest explanation is that the topic is not interesting enough author does not agree with this. Author thinks psychologists avoid religion because it is a taboo topic runs the risk of offending people. Once we put aside the taboo, religion can be studied using the analogy of language acquisition. Like language, religion is universal all societies have at least one religion. There are universals of religion (words, sentences, syntax, etc. ) There are also universals of religion (belief of spiritual beings, mental lives, afterlife belief, etc. ) Disanalogy with language normal adults exist who profess to not believe in spiritual beings, afterlife, etc. So this means that religion is less universal that language.
