16 views1 pages

Document Summary

Puberty = the process of physical change during which the body transitions to sexual maturity, usually beginning around age 10 in girls and 13 in boys. Adolescence = the transitional stage b/t puberty and adulthood, around 13-19 yrs old. Working memory and executive functions are the last to develop. Working memory declines first, but semantic knowledge & verbal ability remain strong through old age. Theory = older adults are more susceptible to proactive interference (new info is harder to learn bc of old info) However, skills that are highly practiced over the lifespan won"t get worse, and can even improve with age. Past memories survive well, but new ones are harder to form. The problem is at encoding, not retrieval. Older ppl usually remember more positive things than negative. Most common complaint = tip of the tongue experience.
