Sometimes conducting a true experiment is not feasible or ethical. A quasi-experiment differs from a true experiment in that researchers do not have full experimental control. Random assignment to the iv may not be possible. A nonequivalent control groups design - a quasi-experimental study that has at least 1 treatment group and 1 comparison group, but pps have not been randomly assigned to the 2 groups. Head starts students actually did worse on future tests than similar kids not in the program. It is unethical to randomly assign ppl to have cosmetic surgery. A nonequivalent control group pretest/posttest design - pps are not randomly assigned to groups, and are tested both before and after some intervention. Researchers take advantage of an already-scheduled event. Researchers studied whether or not judges would grant parole based on the time of day (if they had eaten lunch yet)
