"it"s all my fault though i"m not to blame" (page 4) His reaction instead of literally anything he should have done, was to smile. When she sees stiva smile, she is furious. He is not repentant - only sorry that he didn"t better hide it from her. He thought that dolly knew he was unfaithful but decided to turn a blind eye to it.
