Ethnocentrism - the conviction that what is familiar is more right than the alternatives. This natural tendency can steer people in the wrong direction (david bohm) The problem of thought - our tendency to leap to conclusions based on limited and fragmented information. By categorizing people into different groups (ie. poor, rich, young, old, black, white, etc. ) we tend to discriminate and value some groups over others. To overcome this we should not ignore diversity but instead open our arms and embrace it. People of low socioeconomic status - combined measures of income, education, and employment level - are often less satisfied with their medical care. Reasons that may cause low-ses patients to not get as much info include. Low-ses patients typically ask fewer questions and reveal less about their health concerns.
