In the world today, people might assume that we, as a society are more accepting than we were one hundred years ago. That assumption might be made on the fact that one hundred years ago women didn"t have the right to vote for example, or that neither did african americans. In fact, it seems as though mankind is the same as ever, and we just use the guise of being more accepting of each other. This situationally-based scenario can be explained by a certain type of bias dubbed a self-fulfilling prophecy. Self-fulfilling prophecies refer to a type of bias that state that when people are put in a certain situation, they will act as society has expected the person to act. In the scenario mentioned above, anyone in that situation is expected to be on guard for something negative to happen, because in those situations, people are used to something negative happening.
