Document Summary

Sexual objectification: representing or treating a person like a sex object, one that serves another"s sexual pleasure. ****silencing- in magazines when girls" mouths are covered and they appear passive/quiet. Hooking up- sexual contact first then the relationship second. Casual encounters that do not always mean sex. Dating replaced by hooking up as the main campus script. People are more open and sexually aggressive than ever before. Women"s worth is tied to virginity and yet they"re expected to be sexually aggressive. More men also say they hookup in college. 80% of students hook up less than once a semester, on avg. Sexual activity among students hasn"t increased in recent decades. More intense dissatisfaction by women: empowerment, pleasure, meaningful experience. They felt like they were used as masturbation toys and were disappointed in the skill of the man. No perceived alternative to what is happening on campuses today.
