Document Summary

The biological characteristics of sex strongly influence the social dynamics of gender however the socially categories of gender can determine the biology of sex. Sex - refers to the natural or biological differences that distinguish males and females. Sexuality - refers to desire, sexual preference, sexual identity, and behavior. Sociologists today don"t see it this way, see it as a two way street. One affects the other but that also affects the other. Femininity and masculinity: gender roles are sets of behavioral norms assumed to accompany ones status as a male or female, vary over time and vary in different places. Ex women: cooking, cleaning, teaching, child bearing, nurturing, caring, emotional. Today, husband and wife aren"t like the 50s husband and wife: evidence shows that ender roles have more to do with social status than biology. If you have brothers and sisters: rules for dating, curfew, driving are different for boys and girls.
