The sociological imagination: sociology- the scientific study of human society. Sociologist look at the larger dynamic of situations, they look into what drives a person to do something: the function of sociology as of every science, is to reveal that which is hidden -pierree. There is a social web attached to every web you do, sociology is about uncovering the force and hidden dynamics: social institutions- networks of structures in society that socialize groups of people within them. They gave us a way to start analyzing human relationships, even though we don"t currently hold their thoughts to be true: social theory: Functionalism (durkhiem)- the idea that sociology is like a living organism, like the human body. It needs fuel. social institutions (family, military etc. ) are like the vital organs of society. Every part has a function and the machine"s parts all have to work together ot society will collapse. Functionalism emphasizes the role of agreement or concensus of maintaining order.
