REL 1000 Chapter : Ch 1
Document Summary
Man makes religion: religion does not make man the religious world is but the reflex of the real world. Our normal waking consciousness, rational consciousness as we call it, is but one special type of consciousness. It appears that throughout the world man has always been seeking something beyond his own death, beyond his own problems, something that will be enduring, true and timeless. Religions help people deal with death, their problems, give them purpose (how did i get here). Before science, religion was use to answer all the worlds question about earth, nature, etc. There is no data for religion. it is just a word. Sacred - a notion of a place or a time set apart for the purposes of religious belief and practices. Immanence - things of this world, the earthly and elemental quality of religion in this world and how it manifests into people"s lives.
