Document Summary

It"s the study of how drugs affect psychological stuff like behavior and the nervous system. It"s the process by which drugs are distributed, absorbed, metabolized, and excreted in the body. It differs depending on how well the body gets rid of the drug: routes of administration, intravenous (iv) injections - good because you can avoid absorption and distribution problems. It"s a more concentrated dosage: intraperitoneal (ip) injection it"s rapid, but not as rapid as an iv. It"s a thin tissue that envelops the intestines. It gets a lot of drugs into the blood stream quickly: subcutaneous (sc) injection injected into the fat in the space beneath the skin. It"s good because it results in a slower more steady distribution of the drug: intramuscular (im) injection made directly into a large muscle. Goes into muscle: inhalation, oral administration most common, suppositories, in animals intracranial injection---directly into the nervous system.
