They now aim at providing some form of intellectual stimulation, but their primary purpose tends to be more social and emotional than cognitive. Family child-care centers define small operations run in private homes. The quality of can be uneven due to the licensing. Teachers may not be trained professionals so the quality of care may be lower compared for child-care centers. Preschools (nursery schools) define explicitly designed to provide intellectual and social experiences for children.
