Document Summary

It is a civil law, french based legal system. It is a mixed system, but decisions are written made on code. Lsu law school never competes in national standards since they teach the european. They learn both common law and civil law. Lawyers have to know both to practice in louisiana. Louisiana tends to have more attorneys than more states because there is the sense that businesses need to have someone who knows louisiana law to run a business here. It greatly affects our politics: the courts. It has a supreme court with court of appeals and under those are district courts with lesser courts at the bottom: district court is the principal trial court. Louisiana like the us system has an extensive district court system. We have 42 districts that have 1, 2, or 3 parishes included. Depending on the size of the district they can have more than 1 judge: you can appeal to the court of appeals.
