Meletus is prosecuting socrates because he is corrupting the youth telling them lies about the gods. Euthyphro is at court because he is prosecuting his father because he threw a slave that killed a man into a ditch, until his question was answered but by the time, he got back, he died. People around him think that it is impious. Everybody is suing everyone, pressing charges on everyone. Piety is what is loved by the gods . Piety is like a subcategory of justice or possibly piety is a subset of piety. You can be fearful of something but not shamed of something but you can be a shame of something, which means you are also being fearful of it. Euthyphro is trying to tie piety down to justice.
