ME 2733 Chapter : Chapter 4 Summary
Document Summary
In this chapter there are six steps, which are product discovery, product planning, product definition, conceptual design, product development and product support. Working on the first few phases of the design process makes the product quality better. Documenting everything in the design process makes it easier to find the mistakes and improve the product quality, which in its turn save money and time for the company. Before designing any project there must be a need for that design. The primary sources for this need are: technology push, market pull and product change. After identifying the need and choosing which design to produce, comes project planning. Project planning is so important because it helps the company know how much money or how many people, equipment are needed for that product. Planning is important because poor planning can cost the company a huge amount of money and time.
