Document Summary
One industry leads to the other and then they exist side-by-side. But you had to have bicycles to one day have motor cars. : 1950s and 1960s, at this time, computers were huge-usually filled an entire room. Most displayed output on paper(teletype: advanced computers (used mostly for military research) had monitors for out display. Three universities had these machines: stanford, utah, mit, at mit, the tech model railroad club (tmrc), a group of self-described nerds, started writing programs for fun for a military computer. People added/built on what the person before had written: from this, steve russell completed the first interactive video game, spacewar, in 1961. After he graduated, developed a coin-operated version of the game-housed it in a futuristic- looking fiberglass cabinet. Called computer space, it was released in 1971 and was a dismal failure. But, from that gamin system developed: the stage was set for the introduction of a new art form, and a new industry.
