The purpose of this general education course is to introduce the profession of landscape. An overview of professional concerns and responsibilities will be presented in order to develop the students" awareness and appreciation of the natural and planned landscape as well as the importance of using it in an efficient and attractive manner. This course is in the general education program (art credit) because it gives the students a broad overview of issues that strongly affect our everyday lives. Architecture can make our environments more healthful, beautiful and functional. Architecture involves the art of design as it affects the natural systems and man. For many centuries it has been thought of mainly as an art form, but it also focuses on environmental planning and design for a more sustainable and healthy environment and lifestyle. Also, a general understanding of the role that landscape architects can play in providing solutions to landscape design and planning problems will be developed.
