Document Summary

Si: matthew landry mland84@lsu. edu: origin the attachment of a muscle"s tendon to the stationary bone. Actions of muscles: an agonist muscle is a muscle that: contracts to produce a particular movement, such as extending the forearm. The triceps brachii of the posterior arm is an agonist that causes forearm extension: an antagonist muscle is a muscle whose: action opposes those of the agonist. When the triceps brachii acts as an agonist to extend the forearm, the biceps brachii on the anterior of the humerus acts as an antagonist to stabilize the movement and produce opposing action flexion of the arm. If the agonist produces extension the antagonist produces flexion: a synergist is a muscle that: assists the agonist in performing an action. Brachialis: a synergist can also assist an agonist by preventing movement of a joint and thereby stabilizing the origin of the agonist. In this case, the synergistic muscle is a fixator.
