Document Summary

To answer the question of how did mutual perceptions between japan and the. U. s. and wartime propaganda affect the conduct of war? one needs to look at different aspects of war and how one"s roll in combat effects the mind and also the differences between the propaganda that civilians and combatants received. Race and power in the pacific war by john w. dower shows a depiction of the propaganda that through my experience as a solider and through my friends experiences seem to show mainly the civilian picture. At least this is for the american side of the conflict. Through my studies and as evidenced in this text the japanese use of propaganda was vastly different and had a much different effect on the people"s receiving said propaganda. I will explore both sides of the picture from both the civilian and military sides.
