In the long list of articles that go on for what seems like forever about violence against women and women"s rights, one stood out for me. Most stories and incidents go unheard of in the news but it still shocked me when i saw this one article about femicides in brazil that i have never heard of. The article title is femicides in brazil hit civil war proportions. femicides is the term used to describe gender-related murders. It talks about how in just ten years in this country, 40,000 women were killed for the reason of just being women. Global leadership has dedicated the time between nov 25, international day against violence. Against women, and dec 10, international human rights day, to this issue. This year a meeting will be held during those days to draft a civil society shadow report that will be presented to. Cedaw (convention on the elimination of discrimination against women).
