If you can behave morally then you are elect: protestants believed catholics only celebrated the calling to be a priest. Puritans however saw a religious calling in any job or vocation. Believed everyone was called to something by god: can experience god through conversion or the bible, purpose of settlement, puritans come for religious freedom. Puritans worried that the constant battle between catholics vs protestant was leaning towards catholics. Puritans feared persecution from catholics: believed god had a covenant with england but that england was turning away from god by accepting the false religion. God would destroy england for its sinfulness: puritans come to the new world to re-establish the covenant with. God because they believed england would be destroyed.
